May 16, 2020 was planned to be the 20th anniversary of the Edmonds Jazz Connection. Unfortunately because of Covid19 safety and health concerns, it was cancelled. 20 years ago the Edmonds Daybreakers Rotary held the first event. To remember this fabulous event, many thanks go to Jim Blossey for putting together this wonderful video tribute!

The Edmonds Jazz Connection has been a local festival showcasing some of the best high school jazz programs from throughout the Pacific Northwest. These programs feature many very highly talented musician students, some of whom have performed at prestigious jazz competitions nationwide.

While the principal goal of the event is to connect our community with its many wonderful student jazz musicians, even more importantly, this event is pivotal for raising funds; funds we raise directly support school music programs and students.

This year we are fortunate that we were still able to contribute funds to the Edmonds School District for the Music Lab program thanks to a grant from Rotary District 5030 along with donations from Edmonds Daybreakers Rotary, Edmonds Rotary and Lynnwood Rotary. Our $15,000 donation was matched by a donation from Foundation for Edmonds School District to provide a total of $30,000 to support music programs for the 2020-2021 school year.

Please enjoy this tribute to the 20th anniversary of the Jazz Connection!

EVENT CANCELLED! With the Edmonds School District closed until at least April 24th due to health and safety concerns for our children and community and to comply with current public health recommendations, the Daybreakers Rotary Club has made the difficult decision to cancel the Edmonds Jazz Connection.

Edmonds Jazz Connection

Edmonds Jazz Connection is a local festival showcasing some of the best high school jazz programs from throughout the Pacific Northwest. These programs feature many very highly talented musician students, and have performed at prestigious jazz competitions nationwide. At the end of the academic and competitive year; Jazz Connection is an encore for these hardworking students to perform for families, friends and their community, and showcase their improvisational talents while playing side-by-side with professional musicians.

Connecting the Community & Supporting Musical Arts

While the principal goal of the event is to connect our community with its many wonderful student jazz musicians, even more importantly, this event is pivotal for raising funds that the funds we raise directly support school music programs and students. We work directly with the school district leadership, choral & band directors, parent groups and students to identify the most pressing needs of school music programs, then we provide the funding, volunteer hours and other support to ensure the success of these initiatives. This year we have three primary areas of focus:

  • Scholarships for student musicians continuing their education at college, university or trade school
  • Fund private musical instruction for underprivileged high school students
  • Launch quarterly ‘clinician’ sessions for each program in the district. Clinics provide an opportunity for each jazz ensemble to meet regularly with professional musicians to build improvisational musical skills

Edmonds Jazz Connection for 2020

We would like you to consider joining us as an official Community Sponsor of the Edmonds Jazz Connection. In addition to raising funds to support an exceptional music education experience in Edmonds Schools, it has become a wonderful annual spectator event in Edmonds, bringing 3000+ attendees each year. An incredible performance experience for all performers and audience alike.

We are beginning to raise funds for Jazz Connection 2020. Your generous tax-deductible contribution allows us to jumpstart our fundraising efforts to:

  • Provide scholarships for student musicians continuing their education at college, university or trade school.
  • Fund private musical instruction programs for under-privileged high school students.
  • Award grants to the district and selected participating schools for creative new programs to enrich their musical study curriculum and/or extend the reach of student participation in music to more students

2020 is already ramping up to be another exciting festival with planning now under way!

  • Saturday, May 16, 2020 at The Edmonds Center for the Arts – showcasing the Big Bands, The Edmonds Theater, featuring combos, and Choral Groups at the North Sound Center

This is our premier fundraising community event. Our goal is to raise $50,000 to cover event costs and to implement these programs and help as many students as possible. We appreciate last year’s generous donation and we are hopeful this year you can do more to help make our program even greater!!

Sincerely,
